About Poverty of Deaf Africa...

Poverty of Deaf Africa came about when Sandy Heflin accompanied collegue, Naomi Pfnister to Nigera in the July of 2008 for two weeks of training teachers and sharing what resources she could.

Her heart was devastated at the loss she encountered. It was heart wrenching to the lack of education and opportunities there for the Deaf.

From her experiences there and the people that crossed her path while in Nigeria, came the idea to meet the demanding needs of Deaf Africans.  Poverty of Deaf Africa was born.
Simply, but no small task to undertake, is the desire to establish an Educational Center dedicated to the educational and cultural needs of deaf and disabled people based in Southern Nigeria. This special center will serve as a model for the African continent

.

The Educational Center will house:
  1. A K-12 exemplary school plus include vocational training in marketable skills and trades
  2. Specialized training for teachers of deaf and disabled students for all of Africa.
  3. Professional instruction and Certification for Sign Language Interpreters.
  4. Curriculum development
  5. Sign Language. classes for family and community.
